registered users?

Is there some way to stop any of these ficticious users from registering? You know like "Texas holdem poker"?

Not really, unless we do an Admin check prior to him getting authorization.
But even then it takes someone some time to be able to allow/disallow.

well, not with phpbb anyway. phpbb makes registration very easy, so bots tend to seek out phpbb forums to spam on (they're just bots- nothin more)

on more advanced ones like VB (and even some free ones like nuke) there are checkers before registering and you hafta enter those codes it gives which actually do work, especially better ones like in VB.
